Does Obama’s drug use bother you? December 13, 2007

[photo courtesy of coxandforkum.com] Although Hillary is trying to distance herself from the comment, someone from her camp targeted Obama in an interview telling the American people that they should take a second look at his past drug use. PUH-LEASE! First they attack his kindergarten essay and now they’re going after a behavior that most American youth experience? What desperation! If anything, this whole issue helps him. I like him more because of it. Don’t you? Here are Barack’s comments about the topic: Obama wrote about his teenage drug use in his memoir, “Dreams from My Father.” “Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the final fatal role of the young would-be black man,” Obama wrote. Mostly he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol, he wrote, but occasionally he would snort cocaine when he could afford it. Speaking to high school students earlier this month, Obama said the following: “You know, I made some bad decisions that I’ve actually written about. You know, got into drinking. I experimented with drugs,” he said. “There was a whole stretch of time that I didn’t really apply myself a lot. It wasn’t until I got out of high school and went to college that I started realizing, ‘Man, I wasted a lot of time.’
Penn State students mock Virginia Tech shooting victims for Halloween… December 8, 2007

I just read an article about two Penn State students who decided to dress up as Virginia Tech shooting victims for Halloween. WHAT????????????Not just because I am a graduate of a Virginia University, but because I am a human being, I am appalled and disgusted about this. What if your sibling, friend, child, was one of these victims? Would you just write it off as Freedom of Speech?
One of the Penn State students basically explains that he and his friend have a reputation for outrageous costumes on campus and they needed to uphold their standard of pushing the envelope for shock value. What selfish bastards!!! He goes on to say that this is about “a bunch of college students who now think it’s trendy to be upset about their friends getting killed.”
Um, excuse me Mr. Turdball, but last time I checked grief was a natural human emotion that no one really wants to feel, but happens instinctually. Doesn’t it seem that these two are somehow jealous of what happened at VT? It’s almost as if they want the same attention, but without the pain. And by the way, what the hell ever happened to dressing up as a super hero for Halloween!?
And we want to fight Iran because??????? December 5, 2007

On Monday, a U.S. intelligence review concluded that Iran had suspended its nuclear weapons program back in 2003, and since then has not shown any sign of resuming it. So why was there such hooplah over the past year and a half to start a war with Iran? Yes, they may not agree with us in ideological terms, including their involvement with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but are they really such a big, bad threat to us? I think not. Something smells fishy. Maybe this administration thought they could just change the last letter of the country’s name from Q to N and therefore garner American support to invade. It would be convenient wouldn’t it? More war=more defense spending=more money for private contractors who provide our military with weapons=more money into the pockets of Bush and Cheney=less money for America. Is it time for a new president yet? OBAMA ‘08!
Every minute, the national debt grows by $1 million December 4, 2007

Yes folks, the national debt is expanding by about $1.4 billion a day! Most of you will hit the $30,000 in debt mark very soon. The news gets worse for those with an adjustable rate mortgage because the government is going to raise your interest rates in order to compensate for all of this.
And this might also lead to a drastic cut in services like Social Security and other government benefit programs. I guess Americans don’t really care about their libraries anyway since they don’t go to them anymore. But hey, at least Iraq is headed towards becoming a democratic and free nation! Oh wait, they’re not. SHIT!

Oprah, George Clooney, and Halle Berry are just some who’ve openly said they are hot for Barack Obama. Barbara Streisand, Billy Crystal, and Bill Clinton himself are on Team Hillary.
How personally swayed are you by these types of endorsements and if you’re not, how much pull do you think they really have on the campaign trail? [Photo courtesy of mentoring.org]
How are we going to pay for this!? November 29, 2007

Immigration over the past seven years was the highest for any seven-year period in U.S. history, bringing 10.3 million new immigrants, more than half of them without legal status, according to an analysis of census data released by the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington.
How is our system going to pay for social services for these illegals? We can’t even afford to build levees or new bridges, or even fund the senseless war!

Which do you value more in a political candidate, their experience or their ideas for positive change?
This is the smartest thing Hillary has said. October 27, 2007

Senator Clinton celebrated her 60th birthday last week at a huge event in Manhattan. In attendance were Elvis Costello, who sang, “Happy Birthday, Mrs. President.” Billy Crystal took the stage, stating that he had only been active in elections twice in his life; the first of which was JFK’s campaign, and the second was Bill Clinton’s.
But it was Hillary herself that gave out a knockout speech. The smartest statement she made was, “And we are going to end President Bush’s war on science.”
I could not have put it more beautifully. That one line explains EVERYTHING that is wrong with the current administration.
KUDOS TO HILLARY!

Hmmmm. Though I still feel very strongly about my choice for the Democratic presidential nomination, I sometimes feel a little bothered by Mr. Obama.
He’s been hanging out in South Carolina lately, and doing lots to garner the black evangelical vote. It’s been said that Obama has made an effort to tout his religion more than any other Democratic candidate before and during this campaign year.
It concerns me because I believe in the total separation of church and state. That line gets blurry every time an election cycle rolls around, and it’s to our country’s detriment. We are supposedly fighting governments around the world who don’t make the distinction between the two, yet we are the same kind of offenders. The Evangelical Christian movement seems a lot like the radical Islamic movements who infuse their beliefs into public policy. (and for those of you who think Christians are non-violent, let me remind you that sometimes the pen is mighter than the sword). The hypocrisy runneth over.
Barack better realize that by trying to get certain votes, he could lose many others in the process. You’re a smart dude Barack, so quit hangin’ around the Christian Fiction Club!
Save the Burmese Monks! October 2, 2007

4,000 Burmese monks who were detained after participating in pro-democracy protests against the country’s military, are now going to be “sent away” from Rangoon. A militia source says that the monks have been disrobed and shackled, and are refusing to eat. (BBC News)
This is an atrocity!! Where is the international community? What crime have these monks committed? The people of Burma are suffering under an oppressive military-led government and these monks were attempting to rally the people of the country to stand up against it.
How can the rest of the world sit back and just let this happen? Any silence or inaction opens the door for other countries to think they can get away with this behavior.
Does anyone have any information about what one person can do for these monks? If so, I’ll post it and try to rally the blog community into helping. I’ll be finding ways too.
